It is time for another Netflix post! This week I wanted to talk about the sci-fi genre. This isn't my favourite genre but I have found quite a few gems on Netflix this week. Equilibrium is certainly my top pick from this list, if you haven't seen it, I really recommend you grab your popcorn and duvet! I have put together a large list of Netflix playlists, including superhero films, thrillers, musicals, feel good shows and even a tearjerker list. Let me know if you are looking for a particular genre, I love putting this Netflix post together! You can see my previous Netflix posts here. Let's get started!♥
I remember watching this in the cinema in 2009, I really liked the concept that a plague turns most of the human population into vampires. It is quite amusing that the film is set in 2019 but as we all know, not much has changed since 2009, in terms of technology. The world is now run by vampires but the human population is now down to 5% which means this is a problem for feeding. Ethan Hawke plays the main character, Edward Dalton, a vampire who only feeds off animals. He is trying to find a blood substitute and finds himself in the middle of a surviving group of humans and the vampires who want to kill them.
Christian Bale is one of my favourite actors, okay I'm not too impressed with his take on Batman but American Psycho and Equilibrium are in my top 20. The film is set in 2072 and having feelings or any emotion is now illegal. Music, films and poetry have been banned and people are required to take a drug every morning to keep feelings at bay. Christian Bale plays John Preston, he is part of the law enforcement team that destroy people who still have feelings. The story line develops when Preston begins to feel emotions and he tries to stop the leading organisation. If you are a big fan of martial arts, the fight scenes are incredible and seeing Christian Bale save a puppy is a pretty perfect moment too.
I loved watching this film, it is fast paced and really gets you thinking. Bradley Cooper plays Eddie, a struggling writer. After being dumped by his girlfriend, Eddie bumps into his brother-in-law from his ex-wife. He gives Eddie a pill that allows him to access 100% of his brain. This allows him to earn big money in the stock market but he gets into quite a bit of trouble along the way. The film also includes the brilliant Robert De Niro and I think overall, the plot twists in Limitless are pretty unique.
This really isn't a deep, thinking sci-fi film, but if you are looking for more action heavy and explosive scenes, Predator is your winner. After a spacecraft drops an object onto Earth, Arnold Schwarzenegger, a leader of a special forces team, gather his troops for a CIA mission. They are attacked by a creature from the spacecraft object and the film develops from there. I really like the Predator and Alien franchise, I've watched it for a few years and it still keeps me entertained, it really is easy watching with a few gory moments.
Okay so this will also fall under my superhero playlist but I love the Iron Man movies. Robert Downey Jr. is just mesmerising and Iron Man 3 is entertaining and easy to watch. I'm not the biggest Gwyneth Paltrow fan, (I mean...who is?), but other than that, the film is certainly a good mixture of sci-fi and superhero. Iron Man is needed after Tony Stark's house is destroyed and the world is under threat by a new terrorist who turns out to be a blast from Tony's past.
