netflix - the musicals playlist ♥

It is time for another Netflix post! This week I wanted to talk about musicals. I'll be honest - unless I am seeing a musical at a theatre, they don't really appeal to me, (apart from Disney films of course), but I thought there were quite a few classics on Netflix and I know 99% of the human population love a singing fest. I have put together quite a few Netflix playlists, including superhero films, thrillers, feel good shows and even a tearjerker list. Let me know if you are looking for a particular genre, I love putting this Netflix post together! You can see my previous Netflix posts here. Let's get started! ♥
Dreamgirls
Beyonce can do no wrong in my eyes but Jennifer Hudson really stole the show for me with her starring role in the 2006 Dreamgirls movie. The film is inspired by the Motown era and loosely based on The Supremes story. I love that Jennifer Hudson won an Oscar for this film and her voice is just incredible. If you are looking for a glamorous musical that has gorgeous outfits from the 60's and 70's - I give you Dreamgirls. If you love the film, you can also find the live theatre show here.
Anastasia
I think it is quite hard not to include an animated film in a musical playlist and I think most girls from the 90's will remember Anastasia. If you are looking for a film that is full of nostalgia and music then Anastasia is your winner. Order Pizza Hut and sit back because this is certainly a lazy Sunday movie. The plot revolves around a young girl named Anastasia who tries to find her true family, it involves curses, magic, fighting and a fairy tale ending.
Grease Live
Normally I would give Grease Live a giant thumbs down for trying to re-create a masterpiece but after watching this a few months ago, I really like the new take on it. Vanessa Hudgens just made the performance and I can't believe they performed this live! I really loved that Jessie J made an appearance at the start, singing the opening credits. Although I loved that the original Sandy couldn't cheer to save her life, I quite like that the new 2016 Sandy is a cheerleader queen. It still has Grease sass and I loved the outfits throughout.
Into the Woods
If you haven't guessed by now (and by looking at my blog name), I am obsessed with
fairy tales and Into the Woods gives them a very dark and edgy twist. The songs are super catchy and I love that the plot combines different stories into one. Anna Kendrick plays Cinderella and she does a pretty amazing job. If you are looking for a modern take on classic fairytale's, look no further.
Funny Girl
I really do love watching films that have a classic Hollywood vibe. It doesn't get much more Hollywood than Funny Girl. Barbra Streisand plays Fanny, a funny and charming girl who tries to make it in the Broadway world. It has romance, iconic music and Barbarasa Streisand actually won an Oscar for her performance.
